Ryan Gosling and Nicholas Winding Refn have begun to form the kind of actor-director relationship that brings out the best in both parties, but sadly, that relationship will not continue on the latter’s forthcoming remake of Logan’s Run…

I don’t know that we need a Logan’s Run remake but Gosling’s involvement always had me interested. Now, less.

Josh Trank to direct Spider-Man spin-off?

Venom, the long-awaited Spider-Man spin-off, looks to be moving forward with Sony apparently tapping up Chronicle’s Josh Trank to occupy the director’s chair…

The 90’s saw a spate of Venom comics that never quite amounted to anything more than entertaining reads for people already interested in Spider-man or Venom in particular.  As one of those people who really like the McFarlene Venom from the late 80’s-ealry 90’s I’d love to see a similarly toned Venom movie but I don’t know how it could reach an audience of people not just like me.  And I don’t think that’s many people.

In case ‘Cars 2’ made you forget (ye of short memory), Pixar still does it better than everyone else.

Bill Murray shreds Ghostbusters 3 script

Anyone hoping to see the old Ghostbusters lineup reunited for Dan Aykroyd’s tortured sequel might be waiting a long time, as Bill Murray appears to have ruled out a return once and for all.



According to The National Enquirer, Murray had been sent the latest version of a script for Ghostbusters 3, co-written by original stars Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. However, his reaction wasn’t exactly favourable…

I don’t know if I believe it.  Maybe I just don’t want to.

Scarlett Johansson talks her directorial debut

Scarlett Johansson has got a big year ahead. Not only will the 27-year-old be appearing in a trio of big releases – Cameron Crowe’s We Bought A Zoo, Jonathan Glazer’s sci-fi Under The Skin and something called The Avengers – but she’ll also be stepping behind the camera for the first time on Summer Crossing.



The film is an adaptation of Truman Capote’s first novel of the same name, set in New York in 1945. The story follows Grady, a 17-year-old Protestant from a wealthy family, as she enters a passionate (and somewhat controversial) affair with a Jewish parking attendant….

My love for Scarlett Johansson is unconditional.  I’ll watch all of these.

Robert De Niro gets delusional in the Being Flynn trailer

A first official trailer has arrived for Paul Weitz’s Being Flynn, an adaptation of playwright Nick Flynn’s memoir Another Bullshit Night In Suck City.

The film stars Paul Dano as an aspiring young writer, who takes on a job at a local homeless shelter. Whilst there he meets a bedraggled old gentleman, who just happens to be his estranged father (Robert De Niro), an acclaimed writer himself, if only in his own head.

Watching the trailer, it looks like I can take or leave the movie.  The thing that continues to bother me, though, is Hollwood’s love of changing a good title to a shitty one during the adaptation process.

Woody Harrelson replaces Mickey Rourke in Seven Psychopaths

Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges follow-up Seven Psychopaths  has already got a cast to die for, but that ensemble just got even better with the announcement that Woody Harrelson and Tom Waits have signed on, with Olga Kurylenko also in negotiations.

The new trio will join existing stars Colin Farrell, Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell to tell the story of a Hollywood screenwriter (Farrell) who becomes embroiled in a scheme cooked up by his friends (Walken and Rockwell) to dognap the beloved pet of a vicious gangster.

OK, so no Rourke is kind of sad but Woody Harrelson brings a whole different kind of awesome to the project that still has one of the most exciting casts I’ve heard of.

Safe House gets a trailer

A first trailer has been released for action thriller Safe House, in which a not-so-cuddly Denzel Washington goes on the rampage as rogue CIA assassin Tobin Frost.

Brought in to the titular safe house for questioning (read torture) by the agency, he finds himself in the charge of Ryan Reynolds’ rookie agent, although just who is in charge of the situation is up for debate.

Looks like a solid step in what has been the painfully slow process of legitimizing Ryan Reynolds as a capable action lead.  Sharing time with Denzel will help build foundation.

Mickey Rourke talks Sin City 2

Comic book fans the world over will have found their ears pricking at the news that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are planning to include the story Just Another Saturday Night in the long-awaited sequel to Sin City.

Involving three of the key players from the first film in the form of Hartigan (Bruce Willis), Nancy (Jessica Alba) and Marv (Mickey Rourke), it would be a popular choice, provided the original talent could be persuaded to return.

Mickey Rourke is aware of proceedings and recently spoke to Comingsoon.net about the chances of a return for big Marv.

Werner Herzog to play the villain in Tom Cruise’s One Shot

Everything seems to be stacking up nicely for a Jack Reacher movie: action hero Tom Cruise as Reacher himself, a beautiful supporting cast in the shapes of Rosamund Pike and Alexia Fast and solid character work from Richard Jenkins. But where’s the Bond-style bad guy?
 
Amazingly, German director Werner Herzog has been hired to fill that role in a rare turn in front of the camera.
